Dreams

Dreams

Poem by David Herbert Lawrence

All people dream, but not equally.
Those who dream by night
in the dusty recesses of their mind,
Wake in the morning to find that it was vanity.

But the dreamers of the day are dangerous people,
For they dream their dreams with open eyes,
And make them come true.

Never lose sight of your dreams.  Dream big and work to make your dreams a reality.  Don’t foreclose the door on opportunity because it seems like a longshot.  Be courageous enough to dream with your eyes open, to envision what you want your future to look like – for everything is possible when you truly believe.

A Beautiful Life

A Beautiful Life

Poem by LeKeisha Suggs

What a beautiful life each of us are given
Yet so many of us fail to love it enough
We blindly rush through life – then ask to be forgiven
We make excuses that life is just too tough

And we don’t allow ourselves to see the beauty all around
It’s such a shame, as time waits for no one
So, each day take a moment to embrace nature’s sweet sounds
For there is no guarantee that tomorrow will bring the Sun

As we begin a new week, remember it is a time of new beginnings. Don’t take any moments for granted and try to take time to smell the roses!  Enjoy and have a blessed week!!

Each Day a Life

Each Day A Life

by Robert William Service

I count each day a little life,
With birth and death complete;
I cloister it from care and strife
And keep it sane and sweet.

With eager eyes I greet the morn,
Exultant as a boy,
Knowing that I am newly born
To wonder and to joy.

And when the sunset splendours wane
And ripe for rest am I,
Knowing that I will live again,
Exultantly I die.

O that all Life were but a Day
Sunny and sweet and sane!
And that at Even I might say:
“I sleep to wake again.”

As another week comes to a close, I wanted to emphasize that you should strive to always live each day to the fullest.  I love the concept of treating each day as if it were a new life.  If you treat each day as a new life, you allow yourself to experience the wondrous joy and excitement that each morning brings.  Never forget that life is truly all about the perspective you choose to view it from.

The Steps We Take

The Steps We Take

Poem by LeKeisha Suggs

In life, things rarely go as planned
And it seems like one disappointment after another
You soon realize that maybe reality isn’t so grand
But you must accept, life is a unique journey like no other

And with this comes many ups and downs
So, stop overthinking every step you take
And focus on enjoying the sights and sounds
For you will learn, the privilege of life is worth every ache

Here is a poem I wrote after a tough couple of days.  I hope each of you are able to connect with my words and my message.  I invite you to comment and share your thoughts!

Don’t Sweat the Small Things

Once a hunter met a lion near the hungry critter’s lair,
and the way that lion mauled him was decidedly unfair;
but the hunter never whimpered when the surgeons,
with their thread,
sewed up forty-seven gashes in his mutilated head;
and he showed the scars in triumph,
and they gave him pleasant fame,
and he always blessed the lion that had camped upon his frame.
Once that hunter, absent minded, sat upon a hill of ants,
and about a million bit him, and you should have seen him dance!
And he used up lots of language of a deep magenta tint,
and apostrophized the insects in a style unfit to print.
And it’s thus with worldly troubles;
when the big ones come along, we serenely go to meet them, feeling valiant, bold and strong, but the weary little worries with their poisoned stings and smarts, put the lid upon our courage, make us gray, and break our hearts.

― Walt Mason

Don’t sweat the small stuff.  It is so easy to let the little things that happen in life get you down and make you unhappy.  It is unbelievable the amount of stress we find ourselves under at all ages.  At some point, you need to make the choice to prioritize what is truly worth worrying about and learn to let go of the rest.  Choose to cut the tethers of the weights holding you back and free your soul.

Infinite Hope

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.

~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

On the surface, this quote may seem deceptively simple.  However, when you really take a moment to think about each word, the true power of Dr. King’s statement resonates with your very being.  In this life, each of us will face unimaginable disappointments and setbacks.  But, you cannot allow for these obstacles to destroy your hope that things can and will get better.  In these times of great difficulty, you must rely more than ever on your faith in humanity, in people, in this world and in God that no matter how long the night, the dawn will break.

What is Hope

Hope Is The Thing With Feathers

Poem by Emily Dickinson

‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers—
That perches in the soul—
And sings the tune without the words—
And never stops—at all—

And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard—
And sore must be the storm—
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm—

I’ve heard it in the chillest land—
And on the strangest Sea—
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb—of Me.

You should begin each week with renewed hope for what has yet to come. When you open your heart and fill it with hope and infinite possibilities, you invite positivity into your life. And when you surround yourself with uplifting messages and positive people, you pave the way for good things to come your way. So, instead of dreading the Monday ahead, choose to embrace the hidden treasures of tomorrow that have yet to be discovered.

Hold on to Your Friends

“I think if I’ve learned anything about friendship, it’s to hang in, stay connected, fight for them, and let them fight for you. Don’t walk away, don’t be distracted, don’t be too busy or tired, don’t take them for granted. Friends are part of the glue that holds life and faith together. Powerful stuff.”

― Jon Katz

To find a true friend in this world is such a rare and beautiful thing.  We so often label acquaintances and people who come in and out of our lives for a season as “friends.”  But, those aren’t true friends.  Don’t get me wrong, acquaintances are great to have and provide joy in your life in varying capacities.  However, a true friend is someone who is there to celebrate your highs, to support you when you’re struggling and to hold you when the dam breaks.  A true friend doesn’t ask for anything in return.  A true friend is there, without any hesitation, to stand on the front lines ready to go into battle for or with you.  A true friend is simply there-no questions asked.  If you are fortunate enough to experience such a friendship in your life, you better be willing to fight for it and never take it for granted.

Some Thoughts on Life

What is Life?

Poem by LeKeisha Suggs

What is the purpose of life?
This is a question that many of us ponder.
Is it a journey filled with strife?
Or, a journey full of wonder?

At times, you wish life were like a video game
where you could hit start over.
Other times, you wish you could fast forward
through heartache and pain.
And replay moments of joy when the floodgates open
and you must take cover.
Sometimes, you press play letting life take you
where it will for you stand but to gain.

Then one day you will come to understand
that life waits for no one.
You can sit here fooling yourself
that you have control over the hand you’re dealt.
But you will soon learn, the control you have
over the cards themselves is none.
You must accept that life is not a puzzle to be solved,
rather it is a journey to be felt.

Here’s another original work I created to express my thoughts on life and the journey each of us undertakes.  I hope you enjoy and invite you to comment and share your thoughts!!

A Life Full of Laughter

Laughter

Poem by Bonnie Ruth Shaulis

Laughter is a pleasant sound, it spreads joy all around
Whether you’re young or old, laughter can be like
Magic to our souls, whenever we’re feeling sad
Laughter can sustain us so that things don’t seem
Quite so bad, if we give into laughter, it can be like
A cure for something that seems impossible to endure
So any time your spirits need a lift fill yourself
With laughter and you will find, a much happier
Person with a peaceful frame of mind

Laughter is an essential part of life.  A simple laugh brings joy and warmth to your soul.  So, each day you should strive to live a life full of love and laughter.  Life will wear you down if you let it, so when things get tough choose to find things to laugh about instead of wallowing in your circumstances.  For one day you will see, the true measure of life is built from these small moments of joy.
